I am so excited to share Blakely’s Fresh 48 and studio newborn session with you! AND, her lifestyle newborn session is on Friday, so, if like me, you can’t get enough of her…don’t worry, there will be more to share soon!
Kayla booked me for her sweet newborn baby girl when she was only about 4 months pregnant. I love when moms reach out to me early in their pregnancy so I can get them on my calendar. It makes me so sad to refer a mama-to-be to another photographer because I am fully booked! So, be like Kayla and book early! 😉
Another fun thing about when a mom books early, is that usually there are lots of emails back and forth throughout the pregnancy. I love when I feel like I “know” my clients, even if we have never met. When I walked into the hospital room for Blakely’s Fresh48 I gave Kayla a big hug, and even though it was officially our first time meeting, I felt like we had been friends for a long time!
Snow was falling the morning of Blakely’s Fresh48. We don’t get a lot of snow here in South Carolina, but when it does, everyone goes a bit crazy and there is a mad rush for milk and bread. The local forecast was predicting that the accumulation was only going to get worse as the day went on. So, I left my kiddos, who were home because of the snow, with my mom and headed over to the hospital. I was praying that the forecast was correct and I could get the session done and back home before the roads got bad.
It was kind of magical to arrive at the hospital in a [South Carolina] winter wonderland, and go inside to a cozy hospital room with a super sweet family and a brand new, precious baby girl.
I couldn’t write Blakely’s blog post without bragging on her dad for a minute. Anyone who follows me on social media knows I have a soft spot for all the first-time dads. The ones that look terrified…the ones that take 10 minutes to change a wet diaper…the ones that fear they might “break” the baby…the ones that can’t stop staring at their new baby…the ones that can’t stop staring at their amazing wife who just gave birth…I love them all! But Thomas was unlike any other first-time dad I have seen. You would have thought that this was 3rd or 4th baby. He has an extremely calming presence about him, and even just a few hours old, it was clear that Blakely was completely smitten with her daddy. I have never seen a baby, just a few hours old, stare at someone like Blakely did with her dad. What a special bond they are going to have!
For Blakely’s studio session, I joked with Kayla that we were going to need to schedule 2 days to fit in all the amazing outfits and props she was emailing me pictures of. Kayla has phenomenal taste, and I was dying over the items she was finding! But, Blakely was a champ and we were able to get SO much done during her newborn session! And, a special shout-out to Blakely’s grandmother who MADE the birch bed you will see in some of the pictures!!!
I CANNOT wait to snuggle this sweet girl again on Friday!
