(Edited to Add: So…this has been sitting on my computer since December 3rd…and now it is January 30th. So much for thinking I was ahead of the game!)
I was feeling a lot of ‘mom’ guilt that your birthday was over a week ago, and I have not found the time to sit down and write you your annual birthday letter. But, then I went back to read last year’s birthday letter and realized I didn’t write that one til January! So, maybe next year you will get your letter on time (although having your birthday fall right around Thanksgiving makes me think you are destined for late letters).
Each year when I get ready to write you your birthday letter, I go back and re-read previous year’s letters. (7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st birthday letters)
After having a good cry, I am ready to write.
After reading last year’s letter, I realize that not much as changed, personality wise. And, although I feel like you haven’t grown and changed that much in the last year….looking at last year’s pictures…oh my! How big you look now!
You are still strong willed. And compassionate. And silly. And full of energy. You love playing with friends and being outside. And you can’t “floss” to save your life (even though half your day is spent trying). *And, fyi, for when you are reading this years down the road, the Floss is this dance craze…just search on YouTube for it.* ;)
A few notable events from this past year:
-Played golf for the first time (and loved it!). You played two seasons this year and can’t wait for it to start again in the spring!
-We went to Disney and you rode every roller coaster that you could! You are fearless! Sadly, the “magic” of Disney was lost a little to you. When I suggested you give Winnie the Poo and Tigger a hug you shook your head, then later pulled me aside, “Mom… I am not going to hug them…there is a STRANGER in there!”. lol
-Completed your 2nd year of Run Hard, and ran in your 2nd 5K. So proud!
-Got up on water skis for the first time this past summer at Lake Burton. Your determination to get up and refusal to quit after several tries paid off!!
-Started your first season of basketball (and although your team has yet to win a single game, you have improved SO much from that first practice and I am especially proud of how great an attitude you and your entire team have had, even after losing every game).
I am so proud to be your mom! And even though you really don’t fit in my lap anymore, you have become quite the snuggle buddy in the last year. And I can’t get enough of it!
Love you to the moon and back, Jacob!
