I have been holding onto this session since November, and I am so excited to finally share it! It isn’t often that I get surprised at a session, but Nikki had a big surprise and didn’t let me in on the secret until we had already started the session!
Really quickly, let me back up and explain why these two are so special to me. My parents are Nikki’s godparents, which makes Nikki my god-sister. (Side note, I honestly don’t know if that is a real thing…but in my family it IS). Nikki is 8 years younger than me, and I remember when she was born and have watched her grow up her entire life. She really is just like a sister to me!
Each fall I do a quick mini session for Nikki and Matt for their Christmas card. So, I thought nothing about it when Nikki texted me to set up a quick session on a Friday that they would be driving through Greenville on their way to the mountains for a quick getaway. I snapped a few pictures on a cute little path before changing locations. As we were walking, Nikki opens up her bag to show me. Inside were sweet little baby moccasins and a baby bottle. With wide eyes I look ahead to Matt walking in front of us, and Nikki shakes her head. Since we have that whole ‘sister mind reading’ thing down, I instantly picked up on what was about to happen, and my mind started racing to figure out the best way to set this up to photograph this sweet memory of when Nikki told Matt he was going to be a father!
I sat them down on a blanket and started by having Matt whisper something into Nikki’s ear (something silly like saying his favorite breakfast food in a seductive voice...always gets a good laughing picture!). And then I told Nikki to whisper a secret into Matt’s ear…
Being a photographer, I get to be part of some pretty special moments in people’s lives. But, when it is family, it is that much sweeter to bear witness to such an important moment. Thank you Nikki for allowing me to share in your joy of that moment! I hope you will cherish these images always. Matt’s reaction was priceless, and I am so glad you chose me to capture them for you and, one day, for Baby Steelman to see!
Now, I can’t wait for newborn pictures!!!!!
