Thoughtful Thursday: Letters to Jacob

July 28, 2011

Dear Jacob,

We have now been in the US for 2 full weeks. It feels like much longer than that, though. We have packed a lot into 2 short weeks.

First of all, I want to thank you for being such a good boy on the flight over. You slept in your car seat most of the flight. And when you weren't sleeping you were happy to climb all around on your car seat, our seats, or us.

Mimi and Papaw picked us up at the airport. Poor Mimi tried to hold you (she has been counting the minutes since we left in April), and you were so tired and a little overwhelmed. You screamed and screamed. The whole ride home, you just stared at her. But by the time we got to their house, you were ready to play on the carpet with her. Now, it has been two weeks, and you light up when she comes to get you up from naps, or comes into the room to play with you. You and Papaw are big buddies too. That man would give anything for you, sweet boy. I can't wait to see the adventures the two of you have as you grow up. Papaw hung a swing for you in the yard, and he also put hooks for the swing in the basement in his workshop so you can hang out with the boys when they are working on projects. You love hanging with the boys.

This week, we moved to Maudy's house. Maudy has been prepping her house for us to move in since we left in April. She completely converted her guest bedroom into a nursery and playroom for you. The only bad thing so far, is that Maudy can't stand to go to work and leave you. She loves getting to be the one to get you up in the mornings. You always wake up so happy, and your sweet gummy, excuse me- one tooth- smile just makes her day.

My heart overflows to see how much love there is in this world for you. (and I haven't even talked about your Aunt Amy, Uncle Trey, Uncle Mike, Pop, or KK!) As your Mimi told me the other day, “This is how much every child should be loved.” I think the world would be a much happier place if everyone knew this kind of love. This is what I have missed the most when we lived in France with you. You are surrounded now, sweet boy!
