Most people know that my specialty is newborn and baby photography. For Walker, I had to make an exception. I first met Walker's mom and dad through my sister and brother-in-law. I was living in France when Walker was born, when he was 6 months old, and when he turned 1. When I finally had the chance to photograph this cutie, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
During a recent visit back to SC, my mom, sister, Jacob, and I met Walker and his mom at a park in downtown Charleston for a quick session. Walker is just shy of 2 1/2 years old, and a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e. Walker can be pretty shy around new people, and so for the majority of our session, he ran. First he ran from me. Literally. He would either run and hide in some bushes, behind a tree, or just run as fast as he could away from me and my camera. And he was fast! As he warmed up a little, I could get him to at least run towards me, but he would veer off and run past me as soon as he got close.
We also had the added challenge of a random pop-up rain shower in the middle of our shoot. Oh, and did I mention my almost-two-year-old was with us as well? Aunt Amy did her best to entertain him and keep him out of the shot, but I still ended up with several like this:
(Note to potential clients- I will NOT bring my child to your session. Promise! This was a session/get-together with an old friend, not a typical photo shoot, so Jacob got to tag along.) :)
And of course, just as Walker really started warming up to me, we started losing light. Ah, c'est la vie. It was great catching up with friends, and I think we got some good shots along the way.
